Bookmark and Share

The California Optometric Association (COA), established in 1899, is California’s oldest organized community for optometrists. It represents the united voice of more than 2,700 practicing optometrists in the state of California.

The California Optometric Association (COA) is dedicated to assuring the highest quality of health care for the public through the advancement of optometry.

As a not-for-profit professional trade organization, COA’s goals focus on:
  • Assuring that comprehensive, quality vision care services provided by doctors of optometry are available to the public
  • Promoting access to, and enhancing the public’s perception of, comprehensive optometric health care
  • Fulfilling the optometric community’s need for advocacy, continuing education and services
  • Promoting optometrists practicing at full scope as primary eye care providers and as fully integrated, equal partners of the health care team
The California Optometric Association is governed by a volunteer leadership structure consisting of an elected Board of Trustees and five standing committees. COA members are also affiliated with one of 25 local optometric societies, or chapters, throughout the state. Representatives act as delegates and attend the annual COA Congress where the House of Delegates conducts association business.
